Holes in the model, especially ceiling or floor
What you see
Parts of the model are missing. Gaps often show up on the ceiling, the floor, or behind furniture.
Why it happens
Surfaces you never pointed the phone at, or that were too far for the sensor, have no data to build from. Moving fast blurs the photos, and the app skips blurry ones, so areas you swept past quickly can end up with gaps. Very dark or black surfaces reflect little of the sensor's light and can come out thin or missing.
How to fix
- Tilt the phone up to the ceiling and down to the floor as you walk.
- Finish each stretch of wall before you step on: its wall, the ceiling above it and the floor in front of it should show no orange and no thin gaps between your sweeps.
- Watch the orange areas on the overlay. They are not captured yet. Fill them while you're still next to them by pointing straight at them, instead of coming back at the end and sweeping across finished walls.
- Stay within about 2.5 m of the surface you are scanning. Past about 5 m there's no depth data at all.
- Move slowly, especially when the app says “Move slower”.
- For dark furniture or black surfaces, get a little closer and sweep over them from a couple of angles.
