Glass, mirrors or open doors look broken
What you see
Windows, mirrors, glass doors and very shiny surfaces come out as torn patches, floating pieces, or are missing altogether. The view through an open door or window is often missing too.
Why it happens
LiDAR passes through glass and bounces oddly off mirrors and glossy surfaces like a TV screen or a polished floor, so the depth sensor can't measure them. Through an open door, what's behind is often too far away for the sensor. It's a limit of the sensor.
How to fix
- Scan them from an angle instead of straight on.
- Cover the mirror or glass if you can, or accept that this part will be incomplete.
- Close doors that open to the outside or to another room you're not scanning.
- Make sure the walls around them are scanned well.
