Walls or ceiling look wavy or bumpy

What you see

Flat walls, ceilings or floors come out with gentle waves, bumps or dents.

Why it happens

Depth readings get less precise far away and at steep angles, and small tracking errors build up as you move. Each pass lands in a slightly different place, so a flat surface ends up uneven.

How to fix

1. Move slowly and steadily, so each view overlaps the part you just scanned.
2. Stay within about 2.5 m of the wall or ceiling you're scanning.
3. Point the phone at the surface more directly instead of skimming it at a steep angle. For the ceiling, stand under it and tilt up.
